UACO - UGANDA AUSTRALIA CHRISTIAN OUTREACH

uaco logo

After more than a decade of providing health care to some of the poorest of the poor in Uganda, UACO has entered a transition stage that will see the future operation funded in a self-sustaining way.

A physiotherapy centre and primary health care have been added and an operating theatre is well on its way to being completed.

Those with HIV/AIDS are supported with education and treatment.

At the end of the financial year 2011-12 the Najjanankumbi operation started moving toward a goal of being financially self sustaining.

A memorandum of understanding signed by Dr Edward promises 40 % of the profits from the operating theatre will be channelled into the ongoing work of UACO. It is hoped this will provide a sustainable financial stream for years to come. The work being done is vital to this area.

Edward and Judy
When Judy Steel AO first met Dr Edward Ssembatya in 1998 he was building a hospital in the Kampala slum region of Najjanankumbi. With the help of generous Australian individuals and organisations that hospital is complete and furnished.
Thousands of children have received free immunisations while their
mothers have received valuable training. Older people continue to be
treated on the walking clinic and are cared for with dignity and respect.
UACO has funded the primary health clinic, a youth club, a widow’s support group, small loan scheme and adult literacy school to help break the cycle of poverty.
